Respect The Bird
Who has time to think about holiday gift shopping when the best shopping day of all is here? What I like to call Orange Wednesday. Orange Wednesday is a foodie’s Black Friday. I have my list, I have my shopping bags, and I’m waking up early to go the grocery store for all of the Thanksgiving meal perishables. I’m going to beat the crowds, those rookies who wait until the afternoon before the fourth Thursday in November to purchase their entire grocery list.
“Get up! It’s time!!” I yelled with excitement, standing over Mr. Darcy this morning at 6:30am. Trooper that he is, he came with me to help hunt and gather the last pieces for our Thanksgiving meal menus (our family does lunch and dinner, an all day affair). Lattés in hand, we conquered that grocery store like nobody’s business. I tried to get Mr. Darcy to cut right and pick up the freshest baguettes while I cut left and hit the produce department, but he was adamant about sticking together. Teamwork, he said. I like it.
The Christmas holiday frenzy can begin next week. This week is all about Respecting The Bird. Tomorrow there will be 17 of us from both sides of my family and Mr. Darcy’s, celebrating and giving thanks for the blessings this last year. There is so much to be grateful for. And today I will relish in a combination of work, cooking, and decorating the dinner tables. I love Thanksgiving and I love Orange Wednesday.
I hope you and yours have a lovely Thanksgiving this year.
